Basics of computer architecture.

Question 1. what is computer?

Computer is an electronic machine that can be programmed to carry out set of  "arithmetic (such as addition, multiplication, division etc.)" and "logical (such as less than, more than, and equal to etc.)" operations. The computer can solve more than one kind of problems.

Desktop Computer.

It is an electronic device that take data from the outside world thorough the input (such as keyboard, mouse, and microphone etc.) unit with the help of a user then process it under the control of set of instructions and gives the results through the output (such as speaker, printer, and display etc.) unit for a user.
you can use it to type document, send E-mail, and browse the "Internet".

All types of computer consist of two parts "Hardware" and "Software".

The term hardware includes the physical parts of the computer that we can touch and see with naked eyes such as keyboard, mouse, printer, speakers etc. And these are touchable parts of the computer.

But the software is not touchable that don't include the physical parts of the computer. It refers to the instructions, or programs that tells the hardware what to do. Some examples of software are web browsers, games and word processors such as Microsoft word.

Question 3. Parts of computer?

A computer is a system of many parts working together. These are as show in this picture :-

let's take a look at each of these parts.

 1. Monitor.

A monitor displays information in visual form, using text and graphics. The portion of the monitor that displays the information in visual form is called screen. Like a television, a computer screen can show still or moving pictures.
There are three basic types of monitors:-

1.LED = Light Emitting Diode

LED Screen
2. CRT = Cathode ray tube

CRT Screen.

3. LCD = Liquid crystal display

LCD Screen

2. Modem.

Short for modulator-demodulator. Modem is a hardware device that connect the computer to the Internet.
It convert the digital signal sent by the computer into analog signal for transmission through the telephone lines.
It also convert the analog signal into digital signal for a computer.

There are three types of modem available and these are as:-

1. External Modem

2. Internal Modem

3. PCMCIA

1. External Modem.

External modems are the simplest type of modem to install. As the name implies these are placed outside the computer.

External Modem

External modem is located within a box is hooked up externally to the computer, usually the serial port or USB port.

2. Internal Modem.

Internal modem is a device that installed into a computer system or as the name implise these modems are placed inside a computer system, allowing the computer to communicate over a network with other connected computers.
There are two types of internal modem such as:-
1. Dial-up-modem, 2. wi-fi (wireless).
These modems are plugs into an expension slot with in the computer. Unlike External modem, an Internal modems does not provide a series of display lights that inform the users of changing modem states.
